DB Skills Competition 2025

Today, 6th November 2025, Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre Palabek was vibrant with excitement and creativity as students from all departments showcased their talents during the Annual Interdepartmental Skill Competition 2025. The event marked a milestone in the Centre’s growth, highlighting the remarkable progress made since its opening in February 2025. Each exhibition reflected the students’ practical knowledge, innovation, and dedication gained through months of hands-on training and teamwork.

The competition also welcomed external company owners and development partners such as the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) and Rise Together, whose presence reinforced the spirit of partnership and collaboration between Don Bosco VTC Palabek and industry stakeholders. Their engagement aims to create pathways for student internships, strengthen employment opportunities, and foster lasting relationships that support youth empowerment and community development.

Each department proudly showcased outstanding projects that reflected creativity, technical skill, and innovation. The Agriculture Department presented grafted mango seedlings, a light brooding system, and a raised vegetable garden, demonstrating sustainable and modern farming techniques. Building and Construction Practice (BCP) exhibited miniature building structures with detailed designs, showcasing excellence in architectural creativity and construction skills. The Solar and Electrical Department impressed guests with automatic security lights that turn on when they sense darkness — a smart and energy-efficient innovation for modern living. Carpentry and Joinery displayed beautifully crafted tables, doors, king sticks, and a roofing layout, reflecting precision and fine workmanship. Tailoring and Fashion Design showcased elegant men’s suits and stylish women’s dresses, highlighting creativity, neat finishing, and a modern sense of fashion. Welding and Fabrication produced metallic stands, chairs, and gates, demonstrating strength, precision, and mastery in metalwork. The Mechanics Department captured attention with a motorcycle assembled entirely by students, including a demonstration of its wiring system — a true display of teamwork and technical expertise. Finally, the Hairdressing Department added vibrancy to the event with unique and creative hairstyles, reflecting professionalism, confidence, and artistic flair.

After a tough and exciting competition, the Mechanics Department emerged as the overall winner, impressing judges with their fully assembled motorcycle and outstanding teamwork. They were closely followed by Solar and Electrical Level One in second place, whose innovative automatic lighting system demonstrated creativity and technical skill, while Solar and Electrical Level Two secured third position with equally commendable work. Hairdressing and Tailoring shared fourth place for their stylish and well-presented designs, while Carpentry and Joinery took fifth place, showcasing excellent craftsmanship. Building and Construction Practice (BCP), Welding, and Agriculture followed respectively, each displaying great effort, innovation, and determination. Though the rankings differed, every department was celebrated for its contribution, teamwork, and growth — a true reflection of Don Bosco VTC Palabek’s commitment to nurturing skill, creativity, and excellence in every learner.

While the results brought moments of celebration and reflection, the real victory lay in the creativity, teamwork, and innovation that each department displayed. The event stood as a true celebration of learning, growth, and unity — core values that define the Don Bosco education system. The company owners, stakeholders, and the Deputy Principal applauded all participants for their dedication and encouraged them to keep sharpening their skills as they prepare for internships and future careers.

“This competition is not just about winning, but about learning, collaboration, and discovering potential,” said the Chairman of Palabek Refugee Settlement, encouraging the students to keep striving for excellence in their vocational journey.

The day concluded with smiles, applause, and renewed determination to strive for excellence. Don Bosco VTC Palabek remains steadfast in its mission to form skilled, responsible, and self-reliant young people who are ready to transform their communities through hard work, integrity, and service.
