Run, jump, play, but do not sin "St John Bosco"

More Than Competition

Games That Build Character and Community

At Don Bosco VTC Palabek, Sports Day embraces educational vision of St. John Bosco, competitive games and recreational games.

Recreational games

Focus was on participation, enjoyment, and social interaction. Activities such as stick saving, filling bottles with water, eating sweets and bread and fun challenges created an atmosphere of laughter, inclusion, and friendship. They allow every participant, regardless of sporting ability, to take part and experience the joy of being active

Fostering Unity Through Teamwork

One of the greatest achievements of Sports Day is the spirit of unity it creates among students and staff. Participants from different departments come together to compete, encourage one another, and celebrate each other's achievements. The event strengthens friendships, promotes mutual respect, and reinforces the Don Bosco family spirit where everyone feels valued and included.

Lessons from St. John Bosco on Games and Sports

At Don Bosco VTC Palabek, sports and games are not only moments of enjoyment but also powerful tools for education and personal formation. Inspired by St. John Bosco, we reflect on six important lessons that guide our approach to sports and recreation.

Games build character, not just the body

St. John Bosco taught that sports help shape discipline, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Games are not only for physical fitness but also for forming good character in young people.

Recreation is part of education

For Don Bosco, the playground was an extension of the classroom. He believed that meaningful learning also happens during games, where students learn teamwork, leadership, and cooperation.

Happiness is essential in youth development

Don Bosco emphasized that young people learn best in a joyful environment. Sports and games create happiness, which opens the heart to learning, growth, and positive behavior.

Presence of educators matters

He encouraged teachers and mentors to actively join students in games. This builds trust, strengthens relationships, and makes guidance more effective because educators become friends, not just authority figures

Sports promote unity and friendship

Games bring together students from different backgrounds and abilities. Don Bosco saw recreation as a powerful way to build community, reduce division, and strengthen the spirit of togetherness.

Play must be guided by good values

His famous teaching, “Run, jump, play, but do not sin,” reminds young people that while enjoying games, they must always respect rules, others, and moral values. Sports should always promote good behavior and integrity.

Promoting Health, Unity, and Excellence Through Sports

Laughter echoed across the playground, cheers filled the air, and smiles were visible on every face as Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre Palabek held its much-anticipated Sports Day 2026. The event brought together students, staff, and members of the school community for a day that celebrated not only athletic ability but also friendship, unity, and the Don Bosco spirit.

The Sports Day featured a variety of exciting competitions, including volleyball, stick saving, Filling water bottles by collecting water using the hands, filling bucket in a group, Walking with bricks, Eating sweets in pairs, Eating competition, Eating bread on a string, scoring a goal in the tire, jumping with the sacks and other recreational games. Participants displayed remarkable determination, discipline, and teamwork as they competed with enthusiasm while upholding the values of fair play and mutual respect.

Beyond the competitions, the event created an atmosphere of happiness and togetherness. Students from different departments came together to support one another, strengthening friendships and promoting a sense of belonging within the school community. The loud cheers from spectators, colorful team uniforms, and moments of celebration reflected the vibrant spirit that defines life at Don Bosco VTC Palabek.

Sports play a vital role in holistic education by promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, leadership, and teamwork. Through activities like Sports Day, students develop confidence, resilience, communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively “qualities that are just as important as the technical skills they acquire in their vocational training”.

The success of the event was made possible through the commitment of the administration, Games and Sports Department, staff members, student leaders, officials, and volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure that every activity was well organized and enjoyable. As the day came to a close, prizes recognized outstanding performers, but the greatest achievement was the joy shared by everyone who participated. Sports Day 2026 reminded the Don Bosco VTC Palabek community that true victory lies not only in winning but also in building friendships, celebrating talents, embracing teamwork, and creating lasting memories together.

At Don Bosco VTC Palabek, sports continue to be a powerful platform where happiness meets opportunity, talents are nurtured, and future leaders are inspired.
